Rhode Island Fishing
Rhode Island is blessed with some of the best Striper Fishing available anywhere. Called the Ocean State by its residents and visitors, the smallest state in the country offers miles of shoreline for surfcasting and boaters. Also availabe is fair access to many spots along the coast plus Narragansett Bay, primarily through public access spaces.

Some of the most famous places to fish from shore or boat in Rhode Island run from Watch Hill and Napatree Point to the south west and north and east through Weekapaug, Charlestown - including the Breachways, Green Hill Beach, Matunuck Beach in South Kingstown, and to the West Wall protecting one side of the Point Judith Harbor of Refuge. These locations - plus Narragansett - are often referred to as South County.

Guarding the eastern side of Point Judith and the port of Galilee is the East Wall and Point Judith Light, both popular and at times dangerous places to fish, followed by the rocky coast of Narragansett to the Narrow River inlet.

Narragansett Bay runs north to south for about 25 miles from Providence to the tip of Beavertail on Conanicut Island. The bay is split into West Bay and East Bays by a series of islands running north to south, the largest Patience Island, Prudence Island, and Conanicut Island ( Jamestown ). The East Bay seperates Connanicut Island and Aquidneck Island ( Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth). Aquidnek Island is bordered on the east by the swift waters of the Sakonnet River. In the mid and upper bay are popular fishing locations including Quonsett Point & Conimicut Point on the west side and Colt State Park and the East Providence Bike Path on the east side. At the head of the bay lies the Providence and Seekonk Rivers, both with abundant fishing.

East of the Sakonnet River lies Tiverton and Little Compton, both rewarding locations to fish for the successful angler though both have very limited public access to the water, especially Little Compton. At the mouth of the Sakonnet River lie the two tiny islands of West Island and East Island with the remnants of two Fishing Clubs from over a hundred years ago frequented by the "elite" of the time. At Sakonnet Point is the last eastward five miles of Rhode Island coast until reaching the border of Westport, Massachussetts.
