Look around, they HAVE sucked this country dry.

Shouldn't the largest company in the world have the largest earning?

What is their ROI or ROA or ROE compared to other industries?

Fish wee wee - help out here.

Well if you think that's bad...

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080131/earns...hell.html?.v=1

"Shell said its average selling price per barrel of crude was $82.96, compared with $55.37 a year ago.

At the refining business, profit was $2.56 billion, up from $791 million, reflecting higher prices at the pump."

""Shell shareholders are doing very nicely whilst the rest of us, the stakeholders, are paying the price and struggling," he said. "It is time the government acted.""

nice

How much profit should they be making? 10, 20, 30 %? What percentage should the government be making off of it?

The beatings will continue until morale improves

One of the Oil gurus said that they don't set the price the market does. That means that the price will go up until we are all freezing in the dark.

Oh, there you go again with your talking points.

Personally I don't care how much they profit but I do care with what they do with that money. Big marketing budgets to con the people into believing the oil giants are investing in renewable fuels doesn't do much for my confidence in the future.

And the economy of scale thang don't fly when we're talking about executive pay. Sure they deserve to get (even more) rich, they're delivering shareholder value after all, but $50 Million a year with a $400 Million retirement package (Exxon's chairman) is pretty obscene when you've got working class people having to suck up that extra cost at the pump.

Today, the oil companies are punching holes as fast as their supply chain will allow. There certainly is some trickle down from this as the equipment providers, many of them good old US businesses are raking the cash in. I've been working with some companies that have 10+ year backlogs for oil production and exploration equipment. This certainly looks good on the old annual report, assuming the rug doesn't get pulled from underneath you.

The cost of gas doesn't hurt me yet. It's such a small % of our household income I can take a few bucks more a gallon without it impacting my lifestyle...but I'm much more concered about my son and how prepared this Country is going to be when things are a lot different than they are now.

I read to day that most of the oil Exxon is selling cost them much less than other companies because of the large inventory they possessed before prices started skyrocketing. If the oil they are refining cost them $24.00 a barrell which is the price I saw and other companies are buying and reselling crude as gas but the oil cost them 75:00 a barrell or more that is part of the reason Exxon is making a killing. Either way a boycott wont do. I think Billary should promise to nationalize Exxon like Chavez nationalized Citgo after getting the country to buy the company..

Heaven knows I'm not supporting the oil companies, especially with the mileage I get. Just throwing this thought out. Compare the price of a gallon of gas and all that's involved with getting it to the pump with a gallon of milk and what that costs to get to market. Each $4.00?

A bottomless pit of bum information/ Death makes memories of us all...

Please forgive my juvenile reasoning but... Bike Riding....$0.00 per gallon. This has nothing to with exxons profits, except my boycott has already begun. I just got the sweetest mountain bike, mostly because of the pending MBTA fare hikes. First the oil companies put there hands in my wallet, then the MBTA tried to pick pocket what remained. So I'm giving the birdie to both of them. Charles River bike path make room. Move, b****, get out the way...

I have been boycotting shell, mobil/exxon for a year now . I can afford the gas but others cant . they are just the begining of the down fall of our working class .The power companies are doing it 50% increase by year end , they already hit us hard once for I think 26 % . oil is way up from 2 years ago yup them shareholders are getting cash in one hand and forking it over with the other everytime they fill up them big suv/cars they drive . it greed plain and clear . \

my biggest complaint has to do with where I work . they dont pay me more ! cola would be nice ( cost of living allowance ) . now they want to add a saltwater licence to an already inflated price ,that just goes into the general fund . "can I please have some more sir "

wow Im tired never typed this much before

You are quite fortunate to have the resources to afford it BUT you do sound real pompus making that statement. Many of us have to decide between meds or food and the price of gas is the proverbial last straw. Few bucks my ass.
