Looks like it was long over due? Didn't even dent the gutter.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Was going to say the same thing. Looks like you could have pushed it over.

Glad no one was hurt, but that was an accident just waiting to happen.
It seems like an epidemic across the state, if not the region.
People are either reluctant to, or are deterred from removing old trees from theirs and adjacent properties. Then something like this happens and the insurance gurus come out of the woodwork.
Where I live we see way too many trees that need to be trimmed or removed that are allowed to stand year after year.
A tree from a house across our street fell last year and totaled my brother's car. That tree had half the trunk rotted out, and should have been removed a long time ago.
We had 2 trees removed from our front yard, mainly because of roots growing into our sewer pipes. After last years storms, I can safely say that removing the bigger tree was a VERY wise choice.
Hopefully the damage is purely cosmetic and there is no structural repairs that are needed.
One added plus is that you will have a lot of seasoned firewood if you need it.

It's down and cut to 16" lengths. Black Locust. Burns extremely hot. Wood is going to a friend who does masonry and roofing.... He will strip, I do structural repairs, which are minor, he will roof and weave the valley. Works for me! Adjustor arrived as the guys were getting in their truck. Quick walk through, I send some other pics to him and we should be good. We will see...
Yes, I should have taken it down after topping, many years ago. But the wood was solid right down to ground level. All of us expected to find some interior rot and were surprised the center was not rotted at all... Which was why I was (wrongly) in no hurry to take down.
