Its a convience thing - the steel cut oats (come in a tin can) take a while to cook but taste almost nutty and the texture is much better. Less processing generally means better for you as well. I have to admit they really only come out 3 or 4 times a year on cold saturday or sundays when we have time. If I am going to all that trouble premium toppings as suggested above all come into play. I actually enjoy oatmal with salt and a little butter as well. I dont think it just has to be a sweet thing. I ussually use the instant or quick cook stuff ona daily baisis 2 times a week or so before work which is OK but nowhere near the same thing.
