For commercial applications yes, but for us rec guys they are now becoming a viable option due to price point. Furuno is still the best and continues to be the leader in this area as seen on the world fishing fleet but you will pay for it.

They have always been a viable option, I had a Sitex machine on my boat 20 years ago, and I still have one on board, albeit a different one. The current one is about 10 years old.
