I can see how it gets that expensive... Look at his overhead. The people, all making decent coin + benie's. (trips to Italy for the crew) The Shop, the insurance, etc. Many seacraft owners have a lot of "sweat-equity" in their rebuilds. Yeah they put 30K into it but they but another 1000 hours of their own time as well. Was it worth it? To them yes, because they loved working on it and seeing it come back. But most of these guys take a hit when/if they resell .

Your best deal in boating is buying a lightly used boat from a person in financial distress right now. Use it until you get bored then sell it for whatever you can and chalk up the expense to memories. New boats are nice but the depreciation is insane and adds more pain to an already painful hobby. Rebuilds are "projects" and require lots of time and $. If you love it then by all means go ahead, but if you can't complete it you are in a deeper hole then when you started. Try and sell a "partially" restored boat today....

Heck just cause you know what you are doing does not guarantee success. Look at J&J in somerset. They closed their doors this year. They had a heck of a facility and some very talented people in just about every area of the business. They also had a list of celebrity clients. I hear the property is up for sale for 6 mil. You could put some condos on it I suppose.

Well Borelli brought in a partner with some capital. He moved to a new facility with more space and seems to be trying to hit a homerun with every swing.I wish him well but you need value for money spent regardless of your bank account.Shame about J&J, I know they had a good reputation too.

Without big exposure you really can't hang in there, Goetz/GMT has gone bankrupt/closed their doors HOW MANY TIMES?

It does help that they're pretty much one of the best in the business though.

And like I said earlier, 140k? Have them pop a mold off the hull you want.

This show and his industry is a look inside the luxury market. I work for the same sort of ultra wealthy population that frankly none of us here can relate to. Would I pay $55k for a 1967 13' Whaler? F-No!!! But there's rich dudes out there that can and will just to say they have a boat that this guy refurbished because he's the only one that can. Even if he's not the only guy that can refurbish the boat to those standards it doesn't matter cuz in the eyes of the rich he's in their circle now and they will pay for it. We'll never get it. Would any of you guys here pay $55k or six figures for a surround sound system with remote access controls for cameras and HVAC, lighting, security, etc? Probably not cuz you can get other products that do the same in your eyes from Best Buy, the internet, etc. The rich come to us because they want someone else to do that work for them so they can do what they do and get richer. They should do a freakin show on us and our field crew. It would be the same thing. High pressure to deliver at the convienience of the wealthy can create some interesting situations in the field and office. We have projects that have been in films and phot shoots for high profile magazines, etc. The wealthy annoy me sometimes but they keep my family fed and the bills paid.
