Before you can go out you have to go to the Oversand station during there hours, get your permit, watch the Video and have your rig inspected if they chose.
You won't get away with it on Friday night, they'll be around out there.

Years ago, my old fishing partner RJ and I had a ranger pull his gun on us because we didn't have a permit on Friday night. Ugly confrontation.

Not surprising from a glorified mall security guard with LEO powers. Most of these guys are probably going to be the equivalent of Paul Blart Mall Cops in a few years. They get the shiny badge and go on a power trip. I haven't roamed the beaches nearly as much as many on here but it seems well greater than 4-in-5 of them are just complete D*#ks.

Years ago we would make a mass exodus to CCNS on April 1st, the day the permits were available. I remember getting there at 5 AM and there was a line of guys.
This was before the 7 day permits and there were a finite number of permits offered. Couple of 1000 as I recall. If you didn't get your permit during the first or second day at the latest, you were SOL for the year.
This was when the fishing was great and there were no seals and a lot fewer birds. When they started closing the beach near the Mission Bell, for the first few years we just ran around the signs. Then a few of us got caught and we stopped.
Man, I remember the fishing. We could start at the Second Rip and fish all the way to High Head. Banging big fish all the way. We walked away from 30#+ fish more than once because our arms were too tired to fight fish anymore.
