edible shrooms don't have those and it's a thing you look for.

That's an old wives tale.
Id bet by the look of it it's a wine cap or Stropharia rugoso-annulata . Rugoso refers to the red burgundy color when they are smaller . Annulata refers to the ring under the cap . I can't be sure just from the picture and because it's old though . These can get huge!ANother name is garden giant . The one pictured is average sized ! They are good eating when smaller , not my favorite though . They are very common in wood chip beds, compost and disturbed soil . 
Never eat any mushrooms unless you have an expert confirm the identification .
Im looking forward to some maitakes soon!!!! I have a spot for chicken of the woods too . These tear me up though .....
