If you are comfortable
From what I have been told a simple flashlight would meet the regulations for required lighting. I personally wanted a little more to be confident I would be seen, it's the potential of fog without a compass/gps that spooks me now. I do have the dash mount from one of the older boats we had so I could use it until I get what I want.
