WRT54G + DD-WRT = AWESOME ROUTER
Google DD-WRT
As John said, its real hard to troubleshoot when you don't know the specifics.
whats your IP address?
Start > Search Box > CMD
blackbox pops up
type "ipconfig" without quotes hit enter.
If your IP address is a 169 number your not getting a good ip address from your router.
If you get a 192 number
try to ping google
same black box
ping goog.com > enter
if no reply your not getting past your router
ping 192.168.1.1
reply means you can see your router
compare your old pc's nic properties... maybe someone set static dns..
as you can see there is alot of checks.
I do recommended upgrading the firmware of your router to dd-wrt gives you alot of options but you'll have to do some reading.
Good luck

NOOOOO!!!!!!! We don't want to start troubleshooting DDRT errors!!!
I've been meaning to grab a re-cert off Newegg and flash with that but I have FIOS with COAX from the ONT to my Craptiontec router. Have not invested the time to bother with it out but if I kick out FIOS TV and bridge my router DDRT is how I plan to go.

Call them and tell them you want an ethernet wan, you will still need the actiontec for the settop boxes though.

Bill - I'm thinking of dropping the TV all together. The price is getting stupid. Right now I'm looking at alternatives for TV (Hulu Pro, Netflix, other stuff) and boosting the Internet to 25/25.
Getting tired of total bills north of $150 per month.

Been thinking the same thing. Comcast doesn't have speed options over here.
Also check out new Verizon Home Cellular plan. With the cellular hotspot you can add your home phone for 20 bucks a month to your family plan, when it becomes available I am definitely looking at the shutoff the cable and the phone thing

I dropped DirectTv, phone, and internet that was costing me $220 a month for Triple Play.
Getting back to routers . . . is there a best router out there for Win 7?

My tripple play has creeped up to 165 / month with taxes.
I've used a few of these on small installs - very sweet if your laptop has wireless N:
Newegg.com - NETGEAR WNR2000-100NAS 802.11b/g/n Wireless-N Router up to 300Mbps/ 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4
$60 at Newegg, usually 90 at Staples.

Good suggestion . . . how the heck do you tell if you have wireless N? OMG this sounds so complicated G, A, B, and now N.
Anything is better than paying over $200, but at $165 I will still be ahead. Right now I got it at $109 with taxes the triply play. I bet if you tell them you will cancel they will find a way. I did that with my ADT and they dropped it from $153 to $111.
