Once again no one knows what they're talking about...

Just to set the facts straight:

That incident happened in a game where the Eagles were being whooped by the Vikings... The 60's, I think. Horrible weather, wind chill, ice, slush, etc... Yet still >50,000 people showed up to watch a 2-11 team (what was the attendance at Pats games before they hit the great era they're in now? ). Eagles started strong, but by the half they were getting thoroughly outplayed by the Vikes. The halftime show was supposed to be a big deal with a sleigh riding Santa, cheerleader elves, etc etc... But the 'official' Santa never showed up. Plus, the weather & field made it so that none of the scheduled floats & fanfare could enter, they got stuck. So, instead, the entertainment director asked a drunk, 170 lb fan in a ragged Santa costume to parade around the field, which really teed the fans off. So they serenaded him with snowballs.

So to set it, once and for all: Philly fans didn't boo Santa, they threw snowballs at him.

You might want to check your facts. Sea Dangles is actually right. While the fans did throw snowballs, they were booing, too. And if you look it up, you'll see that the guy playing Santa (Frank Olivo) wasn't drunk. It's one of those urban myths probably started by some drunk Eagle fan who wasn't even at the game. Check out "The Great Philadelphia Fan Book" if you want some good stories about Philly fans.

Sorry, poor choice of words, "didn't boo"... Just irks me that people always say 'they booed santa', when the snowball throwing is clearly the important (and hilarious) facet of the story.

Olivo says he wasn't drunk, but Cataldi interviewed a bunch of people who were at the game, and they said that he was staggering around (even before the barrage started). The Eagles PR director even said he thought he was drunk (gotta love Snopes).

Plus, who shows up to a 20-30 degree game in a one-layer santa suit at a football game and isn't drunk?

Back when the Pats were terrible there were enough fans at a pile of cement in Foxboro to overflow the plumbing to the point where fans were lined up to relieve themselves in the sinks. At least the dog pound in Cleveland wears diapers.
Sorry to derail the thread, but in case Bill slept through the 07 season,he can check the record book to find out Moss made some noteworthy contributions that season. And though it's great to see Welker rounding into form again,he is also in the category of receivers who should not be mentioned in the same breath as Randy Moss from an historical perspective.Yes he is easy to route for as Moss is difficult to route for but he is FAR from Hall of Fame material. For years Kevin Faulk could be called the straw...but role players are interchangeable.

Lot's of people wear Santa suits to games around the holidays. Lot's of people also wear much less in cold weather and many of them aren't drunk either.

I hadn't, but I wish I had!

One in the middle is 'meh' though.

TDF I heard some horror stories on both sides from that one... A friend of mine was there with his younger sister (I guess like 17, not sure) and they both had beers poured on them after the game was over by a group of pats fans sitting behind them. Goes both ways.

Now to derail even further... Anyone hear about the drunk Cleveland fan that tackled the 8 y o wearing a Jets jersey? Was barely a sidenote on ESPN, but if it happened in Philly you bet it would be everywhere...
