Just my opinion so don't everyone jump ugly with me.
I have belonged to a ton of Clubs in RI over the last 40+ years. Up untill 2006 I was stricktly a surf rat so all the clubs I belonged to were surf clubs.
In my opinion, and this is just my opinion, none of the clubs are worth the time it takes to attend a meeting. Unless your objective is to get a trophy for bragging rights, it's just time better spent fishing.
There is always a bunch of BS involved, lots of egos about who wants to be an officer, etc. The only club I enjoyed was Thundermist in Woonsocket and that folded when Lanny Grazini died about 5 years ago. #^^^^& Cournoyer, who fishes with a lot of the guys here, on Cutty, was in that Club. We use to have a good time. All these guys cared about was catching big Stripers.
As I stated, I just find there is too much nonsense involved. I do belong to RISAA but mostly because of their PAC and the influence they can put on the politicians in RI.

I'm in a few clubs I like, I know of others, no drama is hard. Newport is great, so good that they don't meet in fishing season . CT Surfcasters is a great club. There are other clubs that I like and that I'm a member of (MSBA, 'Gansett) that are good clubs, do good work, and in many ways lead, but there is some drama.
