Thumbs up

there was always a wonderful new plug in our stocking
that was hung with GREAT care
to make sure Saint Nick wasn't impaled standing there

with a gamagatzu hook stuck in his hand
a lighted tree with hanging plugs was always so grand

laying a finger beside his nose thus snorting magic dust
to foil the cat it was always a must.

NAILED it LOL.... heh heh heh

The past few years we've been watching all of the Lord of the Rings as a Christmas ritual, but I'd wager next year we'll be switching to the AVATAR.

As a kid, the grown-ups would go to midnight mass (remember those?) and when they got home we would have a midnight Christmas breakfast. Mom and Dad would cook up eggs, bacon and sausage and toast for all/any who came to visit.
Sadly, as we got older, that tradition got phased out.
Now we have a buffet dinner and the kids get to open SOME of their gift on Christmas eve.

For me, it's been the joy of playing Santa at our family Christmas party and at another friends party. Santa gets plenty of good food at both!

On Christmas Eve, Uncle Werner plants himself on the ol' pickle barrel and plays the accordion. Everybody sings, dances the traditional steps and indulge in plenty of homemade beer and schnapps. We then have a large feast of schnitzel, bratwurst and pickled herring. Then more beer and schnapps. Grandpapa (he is 101) will tell stories of the old country, recall Holidays past and remind us of how blessed we all are. All the aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand kids and spouses sleep over, huddled in beds or on the floor in sleeping bags......then we start over in the morning!
