The search for a missing fisherman in South Kingstown comes to an end. We now know the man who was somehow swept out to sea has died.
The 59 year old victim was in the water for about 45 minutes before rescue crews were able to find him. He was about 30 yards off shore.
The call came into South Kingstown Police around 6:30 last night- Fisherman in distress off Deep Hole in Matunick.
The search was intense, after 45 minutes, a man identified as Paul Martin of Longmeadow, Massachusetts was pulled into shore. He was rushed to South County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police tell us Martin was wearing waders in the water while fishing, and somehow got swept out.
Jack Linton is a fisherman who says he didn't know the victim, but he knows how scary the water can be. He's been in a similar situation, when the tide takes you out, you feel helpless!
Linton: "What happens is once the waders fill up your feet go up, then you get into trouble."
We're told another fisherman in the area made the call to 911- but Martin, the victim was fishing alone.
