I think it dates back to the start. One or two writers might have accidently left Babe Ruth off their ballot, and since then, the thinking might be, if Ruth wasn't a unanimous choice, no one else deserves to be. Or maybe one or two disapproved of Ruth's lifestyle

Would they please finally put Jim Rice in next year. He was the man growing up when I was a kid. He's got the numbers.
