That list is among some of the most respected players ever.That's pretty sad if that the case. I wonder what the voters will do when Bonds is on deck.

No one has ever been unanimously elected. I think there's some kind of unwritten rule among the writers.

545 writers this year....do the math! What are the odds each and every one of them will select someone unanimously? Pretty small I think!

I think it dates back to the start. One or two writers might have accidently left Babe Ruth off their ballot, and since then, the thinking might be, if Ruth wasn't a unanimous choice, no one else deserves to be. Or maybe one or two disapproved of Ruth's lifestyle   |

How could anyone pass by any one of those guys though? What's their thought process? "How about that Ripken?"... "Naw, consecutive game record, 400+ HRs, countless Allstar selections, gold gloves, stand up guy, modest guy, I don;t think he deserves MY vote this year." I can't imagine anyone not voting for these guys... If this "unwritten law" weren't in place I'd be surprised to find out that it wasn't unanimous if there 5000 voters.

Remember Dave....you can only pick so many from the field of nominees.....so thats how nobody gets unanimous selection...not to mention you will always have one writer with a grudge or something!

Clemens will be a could test for the unanimous thing in the next few years - unless something comes out about steroids.
Tough to argue with the names on that list though. Except maybe for Ripken who I wouldn't put in the same class as the others.
