Well, I've known my share of bears over the years...they don't like to be rushed...that's for sure.
I'd suggest he sets a table for tea with honey and engage in some lighthearted conversation to get to know the bear, before he suggests any potential change in the bear's venue.
If that fails a 30-06 between the eyes would work as an alternate plan, but if it's at close range he'd better not miss
