Using a jig from 3-5 oz depending on location and current speed, you cast a bit upcurrent and free spool it down to the bottom. Then you work it over the bottom with rod lifts, trying to stay in contact with the bottom. How far you can let it swing depends on what there is downcurrent to hang up on.

Of course, it reads easier than it is in practice. You just have to get out there and do it. There's a learning curve--a pretty steep one--and you will leave lead behind, especially at first.

I use the 10 and 2 or 2 and 10 rule depending on the direction of the tide. I never jig on the way in, I know miss some good structure I am sure but I just hate leaving $ 10.00 at the bottom of the canal. First time out this year I fished a spot where I usually have no trouble well I lost 3 jigs I guess things change more than I think, also have nothing to show for this season to date(4 trips)

The day after a storm can be interesting. I left 7 rigs--6 rigged Sluggos and a jig--behind last Thursday night. I was hanging up in places I usually never hang.

Funny thing--Wednesday night, during the height of the blow, the water was clean as a whistle. Not even weeds. 3 tide changes and a wind shift later---junk city
