Holy sturgeon batman - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

Check this pic out, a buddy emailed me it earlier today.

"Scary to think there are fish this size swimming in MN waters.

This sturgeon weighed out at over 1,000lbs and measured out at 11'1".
It was 56" around the girth and took over 6 and a half hours for the
4 guys taking turns reeling. It was caught at the mouth of the Rainy River"

Did some snooping online and actually it's a white sturgeon and was caught in BC not Minn.
The fish was released as is mandatory for this species

At least these guys didnt try to load over 1000lbs of fish into a flats boat like Mr. Hammerhead... that would have been a Darwin award waiting to happen... (see the thread about the WR Hammerhead)

Wow what a fish, I saw one at the Lawrence dam a few years back all the asians jumped out of the water and were yelling shark.

Those can live to be 100 years old. A lot of things have changed since 1906.

Used to see them jumping at Tom Shoal (near Wasque) in early May. Nothing that size, however.

That's awesome. I'm sure that those guys caught that fish on the Fraser River. It's good to see that it's still in the water as it is required to have been released. Hopefully they took alongtime to revieve it and rest it up.

I used to catch alot of Sturgeon in SF Bay when I was a youngster. We regularly kept fish from 8-10 feet long. It's good to see that California came up with a slot for these fish. You can only keep fish between 41" and 6 ft. These fish have made a good comeback on the Snake and Columbia Rivers also, but the Fraser River will always be the best.

If you can find it check out the link video of the California Sea Lions killing & eating very large sturgeon in those Rivers I believe.

I'm glad they didn't see the need to kill an old fish like that like those guys killed that giant hammerhead in Florida.

We have some monsters almost as big in the Kennebec up here in maine. I took out two first time boaters for a sunset cruise on the river last year and had two almost jump in the boat. The breach about 6-10' out of the water all summer long up here. Oh yeah, illegal to even attempt to catch them.

There are morre than a few of those monster in the rivers of New England. I've seen pictures of fish that size taken from the Hudson River in NY.
