I want to dull boo fish teeth :-)
Seriously, a number of the older plugs, like certain captain bills apparently used crushed glass, or something like that, on the sides of the plug for sparkle. I thought I'd try it out.

Flap, who used crushed glass ? Gibbs?
I checked a whole bunch and you can see glitter, round and square.
Maybe that thick rubbed on gibbs ? on some lures

VB, I think Snook Bait might have used that effect on some of their early baits, possibly Russo as well and Jude. Don't think gibbs did.
