Based on your post, would you agree that they are probably not needed on the ABUS 6500s and 7000 w/ level wind and a somewhat educated thumb. I removed 50% of the breaks ( 2 on the 7000 and 1 on the 6500), but may removed them all this year. I don't find the over runs a huge problem, but they do exist.

Would a magged reel cut down a little distance (and let one avoid using the thumb- my favorite part ) ?

frank I cant say for sure. everyone is different. I am about to mag an Avet SX for myself because it is so darn fast. I can control it, but i think the mags will tame it a little. If you hate using your thumb, then maybe you should mag it.
