Don't know if you paint but if you do give that lady a new dress and take her fishing. At this point I wanna know if that shape will catch fish!!!

Someone pm'ed me that it was likely made by a Shelter Island (near M) spinner but gave no name.

It is 9 inches long and may have dried out some. Likely 2-3 oz.

That is THE shape.very similar to the Super Strike.its only taken a bajillion fish.
at 9 inches an 2-3 oz its just a blown out version.The builder was obviously fillin a void.

We don't see many versions of needle fish lures back here and I understand about fitting lures to fit a niche. It's a great observation of a builder who saw a need and decided to see if he could create something for that need.

In Montauk there are many rocky bars or points with sweeping current an a good drop off the edge of these reefs.I will often have a few different size an weight combonations in my bag.Sometimes a larger (heavier) one is needed to get the job done.Sometimes I light one floated in the rocks is all u need.When u get it right it can be very good with 50 fish nights not unusuall.That word reminds me of tom jones.
I prefer thin tailled needles to thicker ones.I think they resemble the bait better.tough to get the lead in there though.i don't like pokin all them holes in the belly there's not alot of wood to begin with.I think that it can comprimise the strenght of the wood.BM showed me one that broke on a good fish.in that spot where u have the eye, the hook hole an the lead hole u really only have a few toothpics holdin everything together there.I guess thats why Donny Musso went to plastic.

I cant tell if the eyes are cut , like a super strike, but if they are I know the builder. An old man in East Patchogue made a batch and unfortunately they all peeled, like that one. It is sad because his wood work was excellent and the price was awesome.
Now that I look at it closer it probably is not his. The tail twist is too sloppy.

NIb are you poring your lead directly into the body or placing prepoured lead into the tail hole. If your not pouring try it. You can drill the shaft in a smaller diameter deeper into the plug getting the lead almost all the way to the hook placement. The thinner the diameter of the drill hole leaves you with more wood left in the body.
