The color sounds like a King Mack and there were a lot between MV and Nantucket recently...Plenty were caught in the four foot range...all the way to the point that some Derby regulars from the Island went crazy and stopped fishin for derby species and started fishing for Kings...
there were also plenty of Spanish MAcks, but most Spanish have the
dots down the side that would have been mentioned in the description

That fly looks like a cross of a Jamie Boyle squid fly and a Dave Skok Red Can squid.
