Yup, and I think there's two main reasons--games on every night on cable, and interleague play.

Used to be, if you lived in an AL market like New England, the only time you got to see the NL was on the Saturday NBC Game of the Week, and even then, what you saw primarily was the Dodgers, or the Mets after they got good for awhile in 1969. So, the All Star Game was a chance to see all of the great NL stars--Mays, Clemente, Aaron, Seaver, Marichal, Gibby, Koufax et al.

Nowadays, you can see them alll season long on TBS, the Chicago superstation, ESPN, the Deuce, and several other cable sports or satellite networks. The novelty of the All Star Game wore out. Interleague play just made it even less of a novelty.

I think you also have to add to the list of declining interest in the game the tendency for so many players to switch teams every couple of years. It takes away from the sense of rivalry between the leagues. The absolute low though had to be in 2002 when they called the game a tie in extra innings. At least now they play for World Series home field.
I'll watch part of it tonight anyway.

Slow down Killer....you were the one who started this thread by saying how in awe you were of Bobby Abreu's mammoth homeruns in the contest.....just because you didn't realize the balls were juiced is no reason to get defensive now.

Not being defensive ar all!!!

I started this tread by saying "who the heck is this guy Bobby Abreu"
I have never heard of him before this week (maybe because he plays for Philly)
I also found out since then , that he is a lead off hitter!

as for not realizing the ball was juiced, it is every year!!!
and in years past you had Sosa, Mark McGwire, Griffy jr.,Giambi,Brady Anserson, Shefield, ect .... all juiced up on steriods
and none of them hit 24 in 1 round!

I watched the show as a fan and enjoyed it and could have cared less if the ball was juiced, it was just fun to watch!!!
It's just like the argument about women with real or breast implants!
Who cares if implants are fake !!!
Show me a normal (hederosexual ) guy who doesn't like looking at them!!!
