I had a couple but never bothered to stick a surf rod in one
But I did some of my early surf fishing out of a red Fiero GT - that was fun!
I had the cross bars that you would put ski racks or bike racks on top of. I would cushion my graphite rods with rags and old shirts specially configured to cushion and secure my rods on top of the rack without nicking the rod or the real. Once put up top, I would turn the handle on the Calcutta just enough to allow the sunroof to open up all the way... A 13 foot car and a 10 foot surd rod
