squidanny

I'm sure it's been done before.... But this one sort of took on a life of its own. Started out playing with danny profiles about 4 weeks ago. This one's been sitting since then cause I couldn't seem to see anything with it. Then looking at some of the needles I'd done with that squiddy profile, it sort of clicked. Do a Squidanny....

This is about 11" long including the lip (NJT Danny #2) and the tail. The tail is based on a successful squid fly pattern I tie called a Banana Squid, originated by Ken Abrames. Belly hooks will start out as 3/0 VMC. Tail hook is an Eagle Claw 254 5/0.

I have no idea how it will swim...

But I know where I'd like to fish it in early June :-)

Is it just the pic or is the front clolred different from the back?
do you normally tie the fly that short, or is that because of it bieng such a long plug?

If you don't need it untill june, lemme use it for the spring

Sharp eye YS... I didn't quite get the blending of the bucktail, marabou and hackles. That will take some time and probabaly some time dying stuff to match the effect of the gold fog over red paint. I'm also thinking of trying to get a more mottled effect on the body, which will make the tail matvching easier. And with the full fly, yes, it's longer. Some where I've got a picture if you want me to post it. How's about I bring you one or two for early spring and we do some field testing.... Tuesday Nights this spring???

Eben, good point about the darting, etc. Maybe modify the lip and use a very erratic retrieve???

The other thing that keeps coming to mind when I look at this is "lobster"... I've heard stories about bass and baby lobster from some diver friends of mine....
