Liner.

Linex or Rhino is the only way to go. I actually liked Linex but the local dealer was never at his shop. I went with Rhino and love the stuff. It's anti-skid so things you put in the bed tend to stay where you put them. You may be able to hurt it but I haven't.
It makes sense that water can get under a liner but not the spray on. I just don't see a downside other than price which is a little more than a plastic liner. On the other hand I'm guessing resale might cover the cost gap.
