I have been on one pair for 2 seasons. No rust. It does not flex laterally because the plier section is SS. It is titanium coated and this prevents the rust. The front "split ring" portion is extra thick so I wouldn't use it for split rings but it holds a hook solid without slipping out of the jaws. The one downside is they are only a 6.5" plier
