I like to point the rod at the plug, crank fairly fast and pump the rod on occasion. Sometimes a straight fast retrieve works well but generally pumping it gives that "Walk The Dog" action under the water.

Spring and fall almost everyone at the canal is doing the same thing,it's like there's a school of stick shads in the water which = human gill net.
Bass can't resist them.
You'll get the hang of it,it's just like every lure you just have to dial in and find out what works best for you.
Good luck out there!

Going to listen to this guy? Next thing you know he will take you to Edgartown light at first light on an October morning and tell you there are albies to be had..... Or swim you to some rock offshore with Milo at a UDL on the vineyard some night. What good could come of that?
;-)

Crank and twitch with tip pointed at lure the at the canal has produced fish for even yours truly.... which should be a statement of how great the plug is, not the technique or the fisherman in my case
