Early reports of a "reported sighting" of a mountain lion spotted in Duxbury.

Would that be anywhere close to a liquor store or bar?

I don't know how much wooded land is in Duxbury,but I wouldn't put it past ya.
We had on here in Mansfield 7 years ago,it was hit by a car,the Police denies it was a Mt. lion,but they called up a friend of mine who is a well known Townie and a Taxidermist they told him he can have it but cannot say a word as to where it came from

It's a good size cat,I would think it could do some serious damage to a person if it was able to get access.

The office scuttlebutt is that there was a person from Duxbury that had an "exotic" pet mountain lion cub, and when this person got evicted from their house, they sent the cat to a relative in Pembroke to care for while they were staying in a homeless shelter. Then this cat "somehow" got free (and hadn't been reported to ANY authorities)!

I would hate to think that someone would do something this reckless, but there are those that will do ANYTHING to have a "status symbol" amongst their peers.

Of course this is fresh off the rumor mill, so I can't put much stock in its validity.

I've heard that a Mountain Lion won't hesitate to go after groups of two or three people. The Truro cougar is always in the back of my mind when I'm fishing the outer beaches by myself.

From those "When Animals Attack" shows, they do explain that a moutain lion will attck and attempt to carry off their prey.
That means if your dog, or even you child were attacked, if you can't interrupt the attack, you may never discover the results until much later on.
Most people think of wild animal attacks as those "staged" confrontations they show on TV. In the wild the attacks are quick and more often than not, they are DEADLY. The predator will stalk their intended prey until they feel the time is right.
That's usually about the time you let your dog off its leash, or your kid(s) decide to run up ahead of you.
Imagine a cat playing with a mouse. Now imagine that the cat weighs 90-120 lbs. and the mouse weighs 30-50 lbs.

They are magnificent animals, but they are also very dangerous.
I hope that we don't have any encounters before the animal is identified and captured (if neccessary).

is this serious? My son and I walk in the dux town forest often. Yes, Dux is very wooded and I spend a fair amount of time in the woods there. I'm going to ask my freind who is the ecology dir at Jones River. I'm sure he'll know or have heard the truth.

I was scoping out the ice situation at one my freshwater haunts this morning and somehow a turkey snuck up behind me and startled the crap out of me. If I didn't know better, I'd swear he did it on purpose.

I'd never make it in Mt. Lion country.

Be careful....it's turkey mating season, when the toms are out looking for love in ALL the right and wrong places.
The toms get much more aggressive during this time, and will attack ANYTHING/ANYBODY it considers a threat to its harem of hens.

Seeing how it "snuck up behind" you, I don't think it had fighting on its mind.

I saw one alive in Truro years ago, after laughing at my cousins who related their sighting on "Chronical" I've smelled them right across from the visitor center in Provincetown.

there was a sighting in the town I live in , Smithfield RI 7 years ago approx 2 miles from my home.
It was in april....mud season...the local outdoorwrtier at the time, Mr weber (rip) identified the tracks as that of a mt lion...pix in the paper and all
they are out there

My mechanic who lives in c-town was telling me about a lady who called in that she had hit a long tailed deer. Cops showed up and it was a mountain lion. This was maybe 2 months ago.
