Rod Re-do

I have an old ben doerr SS80M I would like to replace the eyes. My question is how do I remove them without dinging the blank? any help would be appreciated. Also any suggestions on a durable eye sets.

Heat the epoxy with a lighter or torch for a few seconds to soften it. Then use a sharp blade to cut lengthwise along the guide feet, being careful not to cut into the blank. Be careful when you peel off the old wraps, as the edges of the epoxy can be as sharp as a knife blade.

I never liked the Pac Bay guides and their spacing on the Ben Doerr 8 footer. The 8' Tiderunner had better Fuji guides and more of them, and the blanks were similar (if not the same blank). I'd suggest removing all of the guides and respacing them before you do the re-wrap. It came with 4 guides and a tip and IMO it needs a minimum of 5, maybe even 6.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.
