Like anything, it depends what you need it for, I just ordered 2 for work at $900 each because we needed some for presentations, nothing too special but not absolute bottom of the barrel. On the other hand we also ordered a notebook for one od the managers that was $4000, its nice, but its overkill for most people. What do you need it to do??

You can buy a notebook for as low as $500 and for as much as $10,000. You just need to decide what you're going to use it for.

If it's just for email, word processing and simple tasks, sure the $500 laptop will do the trick. If you need to use it for multimedia presentations, or some cpu-intensive stuff, then you need to bump that up a bit more.

If you are not in a hurry, go to Fatwallet.com and to the hot deals forum. You'll need to check daily and it might be a few weeks before a real good deal comes along but they are your best deals if not in a hurry...

I bought one for work (Dell 6000) where I had a $750 off $1500 or more laptop. That coupon is rare, comes out a couple times a year and you literally have 6-12 hours to buy it before this particular coupon expired but I told my boss it was coming. My Hardwareslutability saved the taxpayers a few bucks

Whatever you do, be ABSOLUTELY sure that you get a 3 year warranty on a laptop.

What John said about www.Fatwallet.com. you may also find it a good source of 75% off backup led headlamps and flashlights from Target stores, don't ask me how I know. I also recommend www.xpbargains.com.
They categorize the deals by item.

www.slickdeals.net as well
