cleaning used blanks

I am hoping someone could give me some advice on how I can clean a used blank. I striped off the old wrappings and guides and I was hoping I can clean up the old flex coat and dirt. I would like to get it as clean as what was under the wrapping.
Any suggestions. Solvent? Light sand paper? Is there some product out there? Thanks John

A while back another poster on here(Roger) told me he uses a dremel with a nylon brush and it removes all the old flexcoat without damaging the blank at all.If its just dirt wipe it down with denatured alcohol.you can get this at wal-mart in cans.
