Nightfighter,
Just read that you took a fiddy last season.
Congratulations. Couldn't happen to a better
guy. Now next one goes back. Sorry I didn't
hear earlier. But better late than...... I forget.

Thanks for the kind words Patrick
I didn't catch much last year so I'm not sure I am worthy, but thanks for thinking of me anyway.
If we are nominating still, I third Professor M

I nominate Timmah... Not many guys fish harder, much less from the surf. He'll fish 6 nights a week from May to November till 3am, then go to work. Then do it all over again night after night. He releases almost every fish and would have released the fish he won the ditch troll contest with had I not said... DUDE you better weigh that! He is always super helpful to beginners and never once puts himself above another fisherman. He's by far the most humble fisherman I've ever known. He is always willing to take some guy he just met to his favorite spot. Not to mention he taught me pretty much everything I know about plug building.

The ballot is getting crowded with some really GOOD & WORTHY candidates for S-B.com Angler of the Year. I am honored my 2 mates saw fit to nominate me however I think they just wanted another free ride. JR: I appreciate it if you would remove my name from the ballot.

I'll second DZ. He should at least be nominated every year, and should win at least one. Lots of helpful, educational posts over the years, and of the (very) few seminars I've attended, one he gave at the MSBA show a couple years ago about lunar phases sticks in my mind the most. Those on the list already, as well as the ones we haven't thought of yet are all very deserving also, and my hat goes off to all of them.

I would like to nominate the best all around fisherman on this site fresh water or salt and one of the nicest, easygoing people I know not to mention generous with his time, his knowledge and his friendship......Roy Leyva!!! He just plain gets it done!!
If this is S-B "Niceguy" of the year the list is long but if you want S-B "Angler" of the year......Roy is at the top as far as I am concerned but all those mentioned are very good fishermen and even better people!

I'll second WESTPORTMAFIA. Putting aside his penchant for tranny porn and his lack of personal hygeine, he's a damn good fisherman and puts in about as much time as anyone. He's also very helpful with others and when the fishing's slow, he's good for a few laughs.

If this is a popularity poll, I'll pass on nominations, but if it's truly and Angler of the Year poll, I'll second Larry's nomination for RoyL. The guy has more fishing accomplishments than pretty much anyone on the site. He should have been picked several times already.

Several of the past winners don't contribute much of anything here on the site. I think RoyL contributes more than some of them. Just not so much in the off season.

Contribute to me would be participating in discussions on a regular basis;maybe posting once a month would be a conservative suggestion. If you noticed,I did preface my suggestion with "I think" so please don't misconstrue my suggestion as a rule and understand that it is nothing against RoyL whose name I did not mention but he has 3 posts in the last calendar year. I just think an AOTY for SB.com should frequent the site and contribute more than Cowhunter. Not to mention freshwater exploits don't count.

So this is more of a "Good Ole' Boy" award than an actual "Angler of the Year" award. Do you "think" freshwater does not count or it just does not count??? Its a striper site?? Cod, tuna, shark, bluefish??? No count or....???? Maybe rename it "Striper Angler of the Year" with a sub-title "All Around Good Guy and Contributor with "X" amount of posts per year??? Not setting any rules though.....sorry I guess my nomination is the only one that is invalid......just strike it from the record JohnR. Just too silly in here sometimes.

Shouldn't "Angler of the Year" be awarded based on what somebody did for that 1 year you are voting on.
in other words, who would you award this to, based on their accomplishments in 2011.
We could always award an S-B "Lifetime Achievement" award too.... for those who have a history of consistency in fishing and dedication/contribution to the S-B community.

Agreed, it should be for somebody who had a particularly good year, not solely based on somebody who is an all around great person and contributer, ya know?

Good to see Niko, Buzz & Freak are on the list as I agree that the all should be. They all fish more than I could dream and with great results too across all kinds of species. I personally met Freak this past week and not only is he a great fisherman but a nice guy too (aside from tons of Cod and Bass a huge Mako at the end of 2010 and a slob Tuna in 2011).
There are a lot of guys on this sight that catch and don’t tell so it really hard to make a fair a worthy nomination in addition to the guys already on the list.
One guy not on the list that should be is Mark “chathamblue30”. One of the nicest guys around and willing to help anyone out. More importantly and the reason for a nomination, he consistently slays big fish in high numbers……….

I will run this until about noon today
Larry, what we have gone by in the past is a minimum of 15 posts for that year. By that definition Roy wasn't actively participating on the site last year. As far as Roy goes, he could very well be Angler of the Decade in my opinion. So if I voted on this (which I won't unless it is to break a tie) I very well might have voted for Roy. (ROY, post more, you might have been a shoe in )
BigBo, all of the previous winners posted / contributed sufficiently in the years they have one.
Ron - you can't second yourself, even if in jest.
Nominated so far:
Piemma
Rockfish9
Rappin Mikey
Nightfighter
Niko
PRBuzz
Slipknot
ProfessorM
BasicPatrick
D.Z.
Westportmafia
People with one vote that would need seconding:
Timmah
FishingFreak
Raider Ronnie
Unfortunately, RoyL, Biteme, and ChatamBlue30 don't meet the minimum posts for 2011
