I for one certainly do not want my tax dollars supporting this lifestyle, and I do not want to see the day when homosexuals try to break into my church demanding the right to be married under the state laws...

That is what's coming as this agenda continues to desensitize many...

What arrogance it is for homosexuals to force this agenda upon society, the church... and above all... God.

God's laws are far greater...

And unfortunately, many who practice and approve of this lifestyle will find out the truth and importance of this subject from a righteous God just moments after death.

I'm outa here before this thread gets highjacked & shut down because it is politically incorrect!

I spoke my peace on this issue before...

I'm with you on this one Cap't Chet!

I don't hate homosexuals at all... just the opposite... I just care enough to tell them that what they are doing is harmful to themselves...

Unfortunately, people don't want to equate the truth with love on this important issue...

My two cents, gay marriage has nothing to do with being gay and everything to do with the almighty $. Its not the marriage certificate they want, its the perks, like survivor's social security, being able to file joint tax returns, etc. etc.

From my experience with gays.... They are people who are different than I am. The particular gays that I've met are far more patient than the straights. Years ago I worked with the first openly gay that I ever KNEW that I met. He was the most patient human being that I ever met. He answered my most igorant and assinine questions with grace. And he never made me feel feel like the total rube that I was. Based on his answers, I'm for gay marriage or whatever they want to call it.

Ok, as a liberal, and a person who supports this idea, I'm going to bite my lip a bit, not rant and tell a funny story instead...

In my other life I bartend during the summer on the tour boat I've been working on since I was 16; We do private parties and the such in the evenings. Anyways, one of our regular parties ~ once every 1-2 years is a gay non-profit from Providence. They are nice people mostly; like any crowd you get some a-holes, but thats life; These people tend to be the stereotypical gay/lesbians, the guys look like Freddy Mercury, the woman like gym teachers, but thats not the point, these people are friendly, tip well and generally very nice.. I lived for a while with 8 guys, one of whom was gay; he never hit on me or even acted gay, so it was never a big deal to most of us.. Anyways during the G/L charter summer of 2003, I was working the bar, and was doing the normal response thing to the most asked question "how are you handling this tonight" and I'd say fine, you guys are a fun crowd, tip well and dont cause problems, (The truth) except one guy; He was drinking jack and cokes (I remeber drinks well, not names) and he asked the same question; I gave my standard answer and he said "Yeah, well its bugging the #^&#^&#^&#^&e out of me, I'm here for my brother and this sucks"...
After a quick laugh, I gave him his drink free for his honesty and thought about it;
Here was this otherwise normal guy, obviously straight, completly uncomfortable with this crowd, but he was there to support his brother, I thought that was unbeliveably cool of him...

My point out of all of this is that gay/straight we are all the same people, and if two guys want to get married cause that are in love, good for them. The "Sanctity" of marriage is better exemplified by two loving men/women then in a marriage where a guy beats his wife or a spouse runs around on the other... So that argument is mute.. Love is love, be it straight or gay, the same love you guys have for your wives and I have for my girlfriend, it's all the same feeling, just because the Bible or a priest tells you it isnt right doesnt make it wrong..
Remeber that priests (and this is not a religion bash, I was brought up Catholic, but am not at all religious, just a point, dont anyone take this and run with it as a bash on a religion) dont live a very normal life; we all have urges and feelings, and the fact that they are married to their job, or God or whatever, is not the same as being married; What experience or place do they have telling others how to live a "normal life?"
Unfortunetly this will become a big issue in the upcoming election; National Security, Foriegn Policy, Education, Medicare, Social Security, are ALL magnitudes more important, yet here we are debating whether two guys or two women can get married...

Ok back to fish talk....
Also, remeber there are 1900+ members here, and ~1 in 10 are gay, so 190 people here may like the same sex..

Bloo,
Ridicule of religion was not my intention, Religion is perfectly fine for anyone who wants to believe in it, I make the choice not to be religious, but if you go to church, beleive in God etc. I have Zero problem with that, so ridicule was not my intent..

As far as the last comment about giving the Birds and Bees Talk...
I have no kids right now, someday, probably.. But instead of asking what you would teach your kids, a better question is what would happen if one of your children was Gay? Would you no longer love them, disapprove of them? That is often the case and is a sad instance; One of my brother's best friends came out his Sr. year of High School, his parents threw him out of the house, and he never made ammends before his mother died recently of cancer.. My ultimate point is Gay or Straight we are all the same, we wake up each day, we go to work, we have friends, families etc.. We make the same choice about right and wrong, but I beleive that being gay or straight is not a choice, it's they way your born, or wired or whatever....

Sandman...
I have to respectfully disagree; I think the scuppers is the place to talk about whatever people want, and I tend to think this has been an interesting topic... But I like to debate..
I think the beauty of having a place for this is that if you dont like the topic dont read it....
Cheers,
Bryan

This gay marraige thing

Well it looks like Massachusetts is a couple of monthes away from legalizing same-sex marraiges.

I write this as I have spent the past few months oscillating back and forth between annoyance and acceptance of this union issue.

The issue made some more sense last week when I viewed the comedic effort Dennis Miller. Man has that dude fallen into the right !

I never was fond of his efforts prior to this new act and had remained sceptical until he made a comment that went something like this:

I don't have any problem with same sex marraige. What I would have a problem with would be a couple performing a same sex union and a person enters the scene wired with explosive trying to take out the ceremony and nobody had a way to KILL this nutcase before it occurred.

made me kind of understand where the importance in protecting rights should be.

Hehe. Wow Bloo. I can see how this issue would steam a religious person, particularly a senior.

Doesn't look like there is much we can do about it. This is Massachusetts
