Hm, time for the wonderful world of "this sucks" computer stuff!

A file or something might just be corrupt, dumber than normal, etc. Luckily there is a scan you can do that supposedly fixes it if this is the case.

1. Boot up your PC and rapidly tap the F8 key until you see "Advanced Boot Options" menu come up. (If it doesn't, reboot and try again)

2. Using the up/down arrows highlight "Safe Mode with Networking" and press ENTER. (Safe Mode is your PC running on the minimum amount of tools and hardware) *You will then see a screen showing a whole bunch of files being loaded, this is normal, let it run as it will get you to your welcome screen. Log on and you will get to your start up screen*

3. When you get to your screen, click Start, then All Programs, then Accessories, and then RIGHT CLICK Command Prompt, then click Run as Administrator.

4. Click Continue, if it asks for your username/password put it in.

5. Now the command prompt window should be up. Type the following: "sfc / scannow" (without the quotations) then press ENTER.

The scan should then start, let it run. When it finishes, the window or another window will come up and say something to the extent of "found no integrity violations" "found corruption but repaired it" "found corruption but could not repair it".

Let me know what it says. If it says something got repaired, give the pc a go before responding and see if that did it. Otherwise holler back!

DOUBLE DOH!

I was sitting here and it finally dawned on me
what the hell it was all this time....

SO, after racking my brain looking for a most sophisticated
and complex answer i over looked the obvious

on this machine it was the screen saver set to ten minutes

and since i don't use screen savers because they are always
running in the background.... it always reverted to the dark screen.

problem solved...
and once again ...i learned to look for a simple solution.
