yeah ...keep your fish population low (fish to gallons ratio) and your filtration capability high and you'll have less fish mortality and a really clean tank.
Also if you buy a really big pleeko (mispelled) it'll clean the algae off the glass. this is assuming your not talkin a salt water tank. those tanks cost a fortune. my friend spent like 12,000 bucks and then the tank imploded the first week and flooded the house.
