You can also adjust the weight in the tail depending on how you want the pencil to work. I weight the tail on some so that they sit vertical with about half the plug above the suface (these I work like a traditonal pecil, basically keeping the plug in one samll area and whipping the water to a froth). Others I weight the tail less and use the like a surface cruiser. As Andrew stated AYC is a good wood for this plug, I have also used red cedar but you have to use more lead. I put the lead on the through wire so it is centered. SHow us pics when your done.
