I've had 384K SDSL (8K from CO) and it ran like a champ, ran this site out of my living room for the first year on it. But it was more of a fun thing than a business decision. Too many things to go wrong in a home hosting environment. SDSL is better than ADSL. Cable can be pretty good too but there can be oversell issures there too.
