unless your <26' boat was built
after January 1, 2020 you do not have to abide by this law. (Not saying it isn't a bad idea, but I am not going to be doing that all the time...)
So, if I am solo, which is 90% of the time, and rough, I am wearing an inflatable PFD anyway. Especially early in the year when the water is cold. If I need to pee, one hand on the console grab bar. I have scuppers, so I have just gone on the deck sole if really rough and windy.
So, know the regs, AND what is required equipment. Don't let over zealous enforcement take place. I am not trying to be an azz, just saying I have always taken conditions and safety into consideration whenever I am on the water, and especially alone. If I go over, it likely will be after a heart attack or seizure. Just saying.... YMMV.
