NF - remind the insurance company that the homeowner has a "duty to mitigate" after storm damage. In a nutshell, there is a well settled area of insurance law that states a property owner has a duty to mitigate further damage to property after storm damage. For instance if a storm damages a roof - a homeowner has a responsibility to cover it with a tarp (or pay someone to do it) to prevent further damage by rain.

It is rare - but companies in rare instances of serious neglect have denied claims when reasonable measures could have avoided further damage.

Insurance companies are no worse than any other business - people bitch about contractors screwing them over all the time too - doesn't mean all of them are bad, all of the time
