Powerbait rigs for trout (non-hardwater)

What's a good rig for trout bait fishing? The local ponds will be stocked soon and I'd like to take my girlfriends son.

Any particular "flavor" of powerbait? Tip it with a mealworm? It's been years since I've done this!

for browns either real early (dawn) or dusk will take a red worm with some power bait on the hook .......i like orange

but if you see their fins up on top
then they want spinners (meps) pokadot brown and white or yellow
tiny kast masters with tiny orange stripe

or get the smallest rapala minow .... but that's if you can cast it with ultra lite tackle... 4. lb test

i even caught one on a fairly large (again orange) crawdad lure
that was a deep diver lipped for BASS

Fins on top, Wonderbread castmasters can't be beat, A little hard to find but their out there.

In terms of Pbait, I have been going with small mustad circle hooks. My 5 year old loves going fishing and we usually set up 2 rods with Pbait and two with pumped up nightcrawlers. In the fall we got some nice one. There is a time and place for lures, but with my guy at his age bait is where its at for trout.

no-one mentioned whether it was shore fishing or boat fishing

and that changes allot... for trolling, my go to bait has become the
smallest poly wog lure as it has a tight wobble they love then it's just a matter of getting the color right-

two pcs of power bait( I like the 2-3 of the yellow string of balls) and an earthworm w/ 1/4-3/8 slip sinker between two barrel swivels(so line can run a couple feet before feeling weight.)if possible inject earthworm with air(via eyedrop type syringe), it's like rainbow crack. and small shiners are always a good option for more aggressive fish

I do a sliding sinker setup, small salmon egg hook with a ball of power bait, I usually go with flo orange or flo red.

If by boat drift a stimulator (deer hair fly) in orange or yellow with a split shot 18" in front. Works best in a 6"-1' chop and all you have to do is setup in a long drift and let the line out 40-50' and repeat. From shore I'll second using a worm + power bait or gulp.

i have found personally

that doing a large figure 8 pattern over deep water
gets more hook ups then
staying in a semi straight line .... not sure exactly why
other than pulling thru un-churned water...
this is the trout plug i'm presently hunting down and aquiring
but now i think i am going to make some
