I have mixed feelings about it. I realize we have many other problems here that need to be dealt with, but the knoledge that can be attained, and medicines and crystals that can be made only in space, technical advances that will be used back here on earth, research that can only be done "out there". It is really a tough call.
There are a few facts that need to be looked at. I remember when we were racing to go to the moon. Everyone had the same complaints as now. The fact is during the 60's and early 70's while our goverment was spending mad cash on the space program, the woman of the United States actually spent MORE money on make-up!!! Try to keep thing in prospective.
Though I am not crazy about this either. I do like my computor, microwave oven, freeze dried coffee, countless epoxies and adhesives, polymeres, paints, some ceramics, special insulation, and countless more products developed by or for the space program that gave hundreds of thousands of people jobs, manufacturing, delivering and not to mention just plain increased our standard of living.
