BU BYE
Between the 3' of snow at the peak and the ice on top of it the Directv dish is now lost.
See ya TV for probably a month now. 
It's over 45' in the air so no chance of cleaning it out. ugh. |

Lose the Dish and get Fios if it's available. With the crazy New England weather we have, it's a surprise the signal is ever clear. Unless you're one of the non-English imports, I always wondered why people choose the Dish.

get out your rod and cast a plug at it. I bet you can knock some of that snow off. And take a picture while doing it  |

No fios. Probably never will. We're like 7,000 internet miles from the central office. Might as well be.We're lucky to get a 300k dsl line here.

rabbit ears you've never seen where I live 
It's at the very bottom of the Blackstone valley. My house is 17' below grade in that direction. I have not only a cellular repeater on my house in able to get reception but a external antenna with a preamp to be able to hear Boston radio stations.
The dtv dish is on the high peak facing southwest. Only place we could get reception. My roof is like a 8/12 pitch too. Nobody likes to climb it.

Hey Salty, been watching the OWN network.. I was pissed whn Direct TV took away a discovery channel and gave me that. Emailed them and they more or less said too bad. I told them its going to be too bad, because I am going to Xfinity/Comcast. |

If the temps get above freezing, here's an option someone mentioned for clearing ice dams from a roof:
Attach a garden hose to the hot water faucet as close as possible to the side of the house where the dish is located.
Wash away the snow, and since you will be spraying from a distance, the water shouldn't be too hot when it hits the dish.

I love the dish, never had any problems and more reliable than cable ever was. Plus they dont increase the prices every other month. |

Been the same for me since I switched to Fios. No increases, 100% reliability and 25/25Mbit/second downloads and uploads (usually faster).
Not to mention I don't have to sift through 10 plans while they nickle and dime me for HD channels, The History Channel, Discovery, etc...
Also, when my iPhone plan with AT&T expires, I'll get a discount on my cellphone service by having everything (cable, internet, mobile phone) through one company.

I have a different view of it..TV is a great learning tool for kids if used wisely. Teach your kid to watch different things. My kid likes Mantracker. He learns alot of things in that show. He likes the History channel too. Go figure. The kid learned all about the Freemasons. Told me about it at dinner last week I about dropped my fork. He plays in the family room and leaves the tv on. How many 8 year olds can tell you the names of the founding fathers of their country.
But he still watches his share of cartoon stuff too. Some funny some crap.

I stay up to watch TV a few nights a week. Friday night I force myself awake to watch Gold Rush. Love the Alaskan State trooper show too.
