Some pics in Gourmet Magazine got me to ponder why? Especially if you are allegedly a vegetarian. Could it be for the calories, is it shared with others also? I used to carry a cooler but never a frying pan. To see a fishcake followed by some chowder makes me curious as to the type of untensils used to prepare it unless the fish was prepared at a restaurant. Do such dinners promote an weighty agenda?

wanted to respond to this but only ah.. -checked back as to not offend- but c'mon stupid, at least a lot of ppl eat it cause they like it,some have to, and some like pissin stupid ppl off

Because they taste good. A fresh fish eaten a few hours after being caught tastes better than any 5 star can serve. Same with fresh tomatoes, cow, zucchini, corn, clams, parsley, chicken, cucumber, pig, or anything you eat. FRESH is good. And you get more Highlander powers the fresher they are.

A post on a different thread got me to ponder why.Especially if you are allegedly C&R.Could it be for a log,is it measured also?I used to carry a scale but never a tape.To see a number followed by a decimal point makes me curious as to the type of scale unless the fish were weighed at a tackle shop.Do such posts promote a gamefish agenda?

Call me crazy, but I think stripers taste like fermented warthog rectum. Okay, not that bad, but even the smaller ones don't taste that good to me.

Cod, scup, sea bass, tog, blowfish? Every legal sized one I catch ... it dies. I've even eaten skates and sea robins and big choggies and liked them.

Bloos have one redeeming quality. If you catch the right ones and prepare them right ... I'll eat them too.

funny you say that....

because bass seem to have this after taste of where ever they've most recently been

but to my pallet: Bluefish and Salmon taste like the brown part you CUT Off a swordfish steak and toss it.... prolly make a good strip bait... for flounder...

but it's JUST way to oily for me... it's only good food for otters, seals, and sea lions and bears and sea gulls.

When it comes to bluefish I like to dehead them while live then fillet, skin and remove as much of the dark meat as possible before they hit the cooler. When I was a mate I would do this while still fishing (preferably within mins.) so the customers would get to see how good bluefish can taste. The sooner you get the dark meat out the milder the fish will be.

I'd take a striper over any cod/pollack/haddock/flounder that you could throw at me. Personally, I think stripers, especially fresh, are one of, if not the best tasting fish that I have ever caught. Fresh tuna sashimi is definitely my favorite, but that is a whole different thing. Most days, I'd rather eat a fresh caught bluefish over the previously mentioned white fish. I just feel like the bottom fish are seriously lacking flavor.

A nice thick fillet (with all the red meat cut out) on the bbq (with some hickory chips) is pretty good, ceviche is yummy

Bluefish that's been swimming hours before you cook it, not only tastes freakin phenominal when prepared correctly, but brings me back to early childhood with my dad on nantucket, so i have no problem catchin a gorilla, stashing it in the jetty and bringing it home to my parents and giving them and their neighbors fresh filets, before continuing home. Also if smoked and made into spread is probably my favorite way to eat
