In another thread started by Diggin Jiggin, several approaches toward finding the center of balance are suggested: balancing on a pencil and balancing on the cutting edge of a hack saw blade. Here's a third method I thought of early this morning: just tie a simple overhand knot in a small rubber band and slip one of the loops over the plug. It's surprisingly sensitive to location.
