Slipknot is this color close? It's black over the red (see ones in the background), which then makes the red seem much darker maroon. If so and your interested I'll hold on to these and make more for you if you want.

Poured up a bunch in that color because Tobias wanted some for Wed night, so I'll have extra. BM I poured up a bunch of Black Beauties and Smoke, maybe later in the week we can get together. Let me know if your coming up to Slips at all this week, because I can shoot down there in 15 minutes.

GS, we need a cinder worm colored jerk bait down here in RI for the worm hatch. I use a 6" white or red sluggo with pretty good sucess, but some days they only hit the fly guys. Could be the color. These worms are brown with an olive green head. So far I have not seen a soft jerk bait imitation of the cinder worm. Might go over big in RI/CONN.

What's the length of the bait? Could be you just need to come a little closer in length or diameter. Color could be key or maybe even the type of movement. In a hand pour it would be next to impossible to give you a head/tail one color and the body another. The best solution would be to order something in a jerkbait length (4 or 6 inch) that is close to the body color. Then order from Bass Pro Shops the spike it product or some other plastic lure dye, some guys even use Rit Dye, but doing that you would have to do a bunch with just the heads submerged. I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm sure I can match the body color very closely.

Could be a matter of too much bait, with no incentive for the bass to take your offerings. Let me know if I can help or if I can meet you sometime during a hatch to get a sample and take some casts

. Think about wacky rigging a 6 inch jerkbait, might be just the ticket. Wacky rigging would be to run a small circle hook through the center of the bait. Each time you jerk it forward, your pulling the center of the bait, when you stop it springs back out, it's a wacky way to fish. Some worms or catapillars have that type of movement and it can be a great way to rig a pencil type worm.

GS, I was thinking of something similar to the wacky. The Yamamoto yamasenko has a nice wiggle when you let it sink. Will give that a try. When they're on the sluggo its nonstop action but some days there picky and only hit the flies which ARE smaller and match the color better. I'll give you an open invitation to come to Charlestown and check this out on my boat, its heaven if you like to use plastics

. I've had this on my mind for a few years and kept meaning to send a letter to Lunker City but never did. May be too much of a niche for them anyway.

The best bait for spinning during a worm hatch I have found is a 3-inch bubblegum sluggo. I thread it onto a long shank hook on the small side, and tie direct with no leader. The action of the worms is nearly impossible to imitate - they "buzz" around in big circles and arcs in the surface film. When the worms are thick, it can be very difficult to hook up --- frustrating as heck.

sometimes you match the color of the sky as the fish observe
the surface for ranges of contrast... the large sluggo's are good
but those look like they'll have a much better.... action.
