				my very first off lathe

Well, here they are. My very first attempts.

Both needles are 7.5" Popper 5". White cedar. Even got the through hole drilled. Used the lathe like Slipknot showed at plugfest. Thanks

Looking to make the needles floating/slooow sinking. Still usure how much weight to use in belly and tail.

Ordered some hardware from NJ tackle. Waiting on it to arrive before I drill any holes. Unsure what size holes to make for grommets.

I appreciate all the information you guys have posted on this site. I wouldnt stand a chance without it.

To figure out how much weight and where, find a plug you like the action on and float it in the sink. Take the plug you are building and tape soem weight on with scotch tape where you think it should be and float it. Adjust weights till you get what you want.

I usually do it without hooks, but with wire and a swivel.

Go with a 5/32. Fits nose grommet and a sturdier drill than 1/8. Also go with an aircraft drill, less flute length. I am not a fan of those brad point drills with the long flutes. You will never get the chips to flow down the flutes much more than 3/4 of and inch before it starts to heat up so no need for all the flute. Much less flute length equals less flex and more strength. M&D's has them. Peck away at the wood, relieve the chips frequently or it will heat up the drill and wood and it will walk. Get a short length drill same size to start then go on to longer length drill. Good luck. P.

What PM said.....I find the 5/32 is easier to work w/ than the 1/8.

Ths is like deja vu. Funny cuz I talked to him at plugfest and was pretty sure he was building.

Then I looked at the date on the original post and it was exactly a year ago yesterday, but it looks like a new thread?

Oh well, nice stuff anyways.

Wow...I saw this thread and questioned how intoxicated I was last night. Did I really post that??...then realized it was old.

By the looks of this thread it looks like I've been turning for one year!! Cheers to that!
