Wild bore Hunting

Strange this should come up.......Yesterday I was talking with my neighbor for the 2nd time since we moved in in Augist and he mentioned that it is a dream of his to go wild boar hunting in like Alabama or somewhere.......I;m interested to see the responses so I can pass the info on to him

I guided for 5 years in the Blue MT forest (Corbin PK) Croydon, N.H.
I used 30-06/ 180GR always had a SW357 as back up. I have taken 20+ of them mostly 200 lbs +- but up to 350 lbs.
I saw guys shoot them with a RUGER45 with no problem.

There is a wild herd outside the PK that got out when the fences fell a few years back. No Lic required to hunt them in NH

Took this one in N.Y. 254# with my bow a few years back. Great hunt and the roasts and chops were really good.

huge problem with them running over in texas. thats where all of the meat i buy comes from. i have 6 racks in my cooler at work right now. the meat is very similar to pork, a bit more flavorful. will serve the rib chops grilled, mashed 'taters, braised red cabbage, bourbon demi glace (type of brown sauce). i heard there is a specific type of dog bred in argentina (?) to hunt them. they pack the dogs with kevlar vests, they run down the boar, they are then tied up and killed with a knife. this supposedly preserves the integrity of the meat for some reason. i'd drop one, can you do any guided hunts anywhere close? man, that would be one hell of a barbecue!

In the 1930s, Antonio Nores Martinez attempted to breed a big game hunting dog that would also capable of being a loyal pet and guard dog. Martinez picked the Cordoba Fighting Dog to be the base for the breed. This breed is extinct today but was described as a large and ferocious dog that was both a great hunter and fighter. He crossed it with the Great Dane, Boxer, Spanish Mastiff, Old English Bulldog, Bull Terrier, Great Pyrenees, Pointer, Irish Wolfhound and Dogue de Bordeaux.[1] Martinez continued to improve the resulting breed via selective breeding to introduce the desired traits.

I use a 270, plenty of gun if hit right. I also get 'em with my bow.

So when are the best times of year to hunt? Buddy was thinking of heading down to Carolinas or somewhere like that. He said it would cost a lot more to hunt in PA. 6-700 for one hog?

I was checking some places out the prices ranged from about 500-2000. Most places charge you extra if you shoot a trophy. I will look into this some more...

There was a place in Florida that charges like 250, but it mat be a little shady.

Wild Hill game Preserve in Fairly Vt. Great hunt, have been there several times. You can use whatever weapon you choose, I shot the first one w/ a 270. The following year I used a 44 revolver. The last time I used a Ruger 357. An absolute blast, very rustic. They shut the generator after dinner and everything runs on 12 volt. I've only been there in Nov., Mon, Tue, and Wed. before Thanksgiving. Haven't been an a few years, it used to be $650 for the hog, 2 nights lodging and 3 meals a day. Butchering was $77, you need to bring your own cooler for the meat. Good luck!!

Maybe you should check out the state of Florida Fish & Game. That state is over run with wild boar and I'm sure you would have no problem finding an area to hunt free. You may also get yourself a trophy snake.
