applying holographic foil or film to plugs

I recently purchased a plastic plug from Japan. It has a very realistic and attractive film or foil that is applied over the plug and then sealed with a clear coat of some kind.
I was wondering if you guys have ever applied a film and if so how did you do it? I am guessing (or hoping) it came in a tube form and you slipped it over the plug and applied heat to shrink fit it but I am guessing. Is that how they do it?

I was reading that it is possible to take an actual photograph of a fish with real fine detail and have it printed on this foil and then applied to the lure. I have not see it but it sounds pretty slick. Although a couple of those Polish plugs have a fish finish that looks like it could have come from a photo.
